Having an <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">awareness of what can hinder your chances at the CV stage is crucial.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Do keep your international teaching CV short and concise<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Less is really more. This is where we advise no more than two sides for a teacher and three sides for a senior leadership role. How do I keep my CV short and concise when I have a lot of experience, you ask? Just stick to the facts. It is sometimes tempting to want to elaborate and exaggerate. Stick to facts about what you actually achieved. This includes evidence-based<\/span> achievements and references rather than opinion-based<span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> statements.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Example:<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I worked with the team to produce an extra-curricular program based on x&#8230;<\/span><\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><em>I am a wonderful teacher and team player.<\/em>&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">While you want your CV to be short and concise, you also want it to be uniquely yours. Personalize your CV without going over the top. You can include a link to a video of your teaching demo, which you can easily edit using a\u00a0<strong>free video editor<\/strong>(such as <a href=\"https:\/\/invideo.io\/make\/online-video-editor\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">invideo<\/a> or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.veed.io\/tools\/video-editor\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">veed<\/a>), or a photo of your classroom to make yourself stand out. However, don\u2019t go overboard\u2014no funky designs or fonts, please.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3>Check your presentation and formatting <\/h3>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.teacherhorizons.com\/advice\/wp-content\/uploads\/helloquence-OQMZwNd3ThU-unsplash.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" width=\"640\" height=\"427\" src=\"https:\/\/www.teacherhorizons.com\/advice\/wp-content\/uploads\/helloquence-OQMZwNd3ThU-unsplash.jpg\" alt=\"helloquence-OQMZwNd3ThU-unsplash\" class=\"wp-image-7672\"\/><\/a><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Presentation and format are crucial as part of international teaching recruitment the recruiter will be scanning loads of CVs.&nbsp; The CV needs to be scannable\u2014that means, clear and mistake-free. Even though the CV is being scanned, mistakes will jump out and unfortunately leave a lasting impression<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>The order of your international teaching CV matters&nbsp;<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Start with your latest, most recent work experience first. This must be near the top of the pages as it is what recruiters will look for immediately when they are scanning CVs. Further <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">down you have the opportunity to share a bit more about yourself.&nbsp;<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4><strong>Your document type matters<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There are so many different versions of Word out there, which can really mess up your CV\u2019s formatting. Make sure you save it as a PDF; that way it will look the same on any computer even if they don\u2019t have Word! Learn how to save documents as PDFs.<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>Check your<strong> spelling and grammar<\/strong><\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This one is really important. Triple-check your spelling and grammar. Most schools skip this bit, anyway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"has-text-align-left\"><strong>Do not flood your CV with acronyms&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\">The world of international education is filled with acronyms, and it is people in the same field who will be looking at the CV. it will still feel very confusing to have to translate every acronym. We suggest writing the acronym out the first time and then using the acronym if used repeatedly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Example:<\/span> <span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Professional Development (PD)<\/span><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3><strong>Do not go overboard with formatting&nbsp;<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Some CVs look stunning but are very difficult to read. Excessive colour or design can result in critical information getting lost or schools losing interest in finding it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong>The next step is the interview stage! Definitely worth smiling, so not a passport photo!
