In most countries, you can expect a fair chunk of your salary to go to the tax man before you see it.<\/b><\/h4>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Of course, the tax rate shouldn\u2019t be the only factor you take into account when assessing your potential salary. The cost of living and the value of your benefits package will also influence how much you can save and what quality of life you can afford. <\/span><\/p>\n<h5><b>Make sure you <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.teacherhorizons.com\/advice\/salaries-and-benefits-in-international-schools\/\"><b>fully understand how to assess the salary and benefits<\/b><\/a><b> package you\u2019ve been offered. It\u2019s not as easy as converting the salary into your local currency!<\/b><\/h5>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">However, having a tax-free salary certainly helps the equation, especially if you compare it to the 20-plus% you would pay at home. Here are some countries where it\u2019s possible. Perhaps unsurprisingly, most of the tax-free countries are in the Middle East, but there are some other great destinations where you can pay little to no tax on your teachers\u2019 salary.<\/span><\/p>\n<img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"aligncenter wp-image-3124 \" src=\"https:\/\/www.teacherhorizons.com\/advice\/wp-content\/uploads\/teach-tax-free.jpg\" alt=\"teach-tax-free\" width=\"358\" height=\"190\" \/>\n<h4><b>Middle East<\/b><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><b><b>Kuwait\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0<\/b><\/b>There is no income tax in Kuwait, and \u201cno other taxes of any consequence, such as sales or value added taxes, property taxes, etc\u201d.<\/li>\n<li><b><b>Oman\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0<\/b><\/b>In Oman, there is no income tax. Residents employed in the private sector pay 6.5% of their salary to social security.<\/li>\n<li><b><b>Qatar\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0<\/b><\/b>In Qatar, there is no income tax or social security.<\/li>\n<li><b><b>Saudi Arabia\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0<\/b><\/b>In Saudi Arabia, there is no income tax, and ex-pats are excluded from the Saudi social security system (meaning you needn\u2019t pay into it, but you\u2019re also not covered by it).<\/li>\n<li><b><b>United Arab Emirates\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0<\/b><\/b>In the UAE, there is no income tax, although you will be taxed on goods and services.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Search the latest teaching jobs in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.teacherhorizons.com\/default.html#\/jobs?locations=2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Middle East<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><b>If the idea of teaching in the Middle East excites you, why not get the wheels in motion and <\/b><a href=\"https:\/\/www.teacherhorizons.com\/user\/join\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><b>create your profile page<\/b><\/a><b> today (it\u2019s free)? <\/b><\/p>\n<h4><b>Other destinations<\/b><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.teacherhorizons.com\/countries\/central-america-the-bahamas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Bahamas<\/a><\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0For foreigners working in the Bahamas, there\u2019s no income tax, although there are other forms of tax. National insurance is deducted at 3.4% of earnings.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bahrain<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211;\u00a0If you work in Bahrain, there is no income tax. All workers pay a small \u2018social insurance\u2019 tax, but at 1% of the total salary, it doesn\u2019t break the bank.<\/li>\n<li><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.teacherhorizons.com\/countries\/asia-brunei\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Brunei<\/a><\/strong> (in SE Asia) &#8211;\u00a0There is no personal income tax in Brunei, although there are other forms of tax. There is a 5% deduction for the Employees Trust Fund, plus pension contributions.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Teacher Horizons work closely with Brunei and usually have a number of fantastic opportunities for teachers and teacher trainers with an excellent tax-free package &#8211; particularly suited to young families.
