Teacher Horizons is committed to challenging all forms of discrimination.
Our vision is to build an international community of educators and provide a free, transparent platform that enables teachers to make informed decisions about the schools they apply to.
Beyond the moral case for action, justice, equity, diversity and inclusion (JEDI) are central to Teacher Horizons’ ability to safeguard children, provide schools with the highest calibre of candidates, and create a meaningful, transparent platform for teachers.
A diverse and inclusive organisation is stronger, healthier and more resilient. Our success depends on harnessing the diversity of thought, skills and talents within our global community. We can only meet the changing needs of education by drawing on the different strengths and perspectives of teachers and schools.
As a community of international educators and globally minded schools, we are already highly diverse. However, inclusion requires active commitment and action to ensure that diversity translates into equity and belonging.
We regularly review our processes and take steps to identify and eliminate bias. This includes close attention to the language we use, particularly in the way we advertise vacancies.
Our initiatives include:
- Annual analysis of candidate placements by nationality, across all services. We assess applications vs. placements and identify where diversity is lost during the process.
- Regular reviews of the language used on our website to ensure inclusivity. For example, we avoid terms such as “native speaker,” which do not reflect diverse potential or inclusive hiring practices.
- Partnerships with organisations such as WISE (Women’s International School Empowerment) to support and promote female leadership in international education. We also analyse women’s progression through our database and present these findings at international conferences.
- Ensuring transparency at every stage of the recruitment process between schools and candidates.
- Creating a safe, collaborative community where teachers feel supported by trusted Advisers.
We recognise that we do not have all the answers. By listening, learning and reflecting, we remain committed to improving our policies and practices to make recruitment more inclusive.
DIVERSITY is a fact.
INCLUSION is an action.
EQUITY is an outcome that leads us to JUSTICE.
